Using Watch Faces For a Feminine Look
By Irene Test
Some say watches are outdated – and they may be right. The basic, always-necessary watch has been replaced by cell phones and similar mobile devices that display the time and also act as sports watches and calculators. Because of this built-in function, a basic leather or metal band watch has lost its practicality and is somewhat obsolete. Finding a niche in the accessory market is one way the watch industry has managed to keep up. No longer are standard watches a basic band with a metal face. Instead, they should match your personal style and function almost like jewelry. For women, this often means many watches are designed with a bracelet style, with interchangeable faces and bands, and, for men, bling or ice watches are the most popular.
When considering standard leather or metal band watches for women, the one way the watch manages to be distinct is with the face. Pairing a basic gold or silver face with a metal band is often too unisex or masculine a style. Giving the look a bit of a feminine edge is done with a unique watch face. Aside from basic gold and silver faces, marcasite is a popular material used, especially if you’re looking for an antique or vintage look, and so is colored metal. Embellishments are also one way to jazz up a watch face. A set of watch faces from a wholesale dealer, for example, may have edges lined with rhinestones and beads.
Aside from using a unique set of watch faces with a solid color, classic band, the reverse is possible for adding an accessory to your wardrobe. Some sets by wholesale dealers take a standard gold or silver face and pair it with a set of colorful bands. Some of these are lobster claw styles, beaded watchbands that attach to the sides of the face, and others are basic metal bands for which a watch face can slide on. Similarly, these bangle or cuff bands are made with several materials ranging from metal to plastic to enamel.
As an accessory, such interchangeable watches can match your outfit every day. Whether you choose a set of watch faces to use with a band or the reverse, such watch bracelets will complement your look.
